Ninth Step:

Be Humble and engage in singing Almighty's praises.

Slok Mahla 1 (Guru Nanak Dev Ji):
Cart loads (of reading material may be) read (and) re-read; (reading material) piled (in) heaps (maybe) read (and) re-read.
(Reading material enough to) fill boat (may be) read (and) re-read; (reading material sufficient to) fill pits (may be) read (and) re-read.
Yea (after) year (may be spent in) reading all (the) months (may be utilized for) reading.
Whole life (may be spent in) reading (and) each breath (may be spent in) reading.
Nanak (says of) account (is just) one element (which is acceptance of supremacy of Almighty and all) else (is) irrational absurdity (of) I’ness. ||1||

Mahla 1 (Guru Nanak Dev Ji):
(Engagement in) lot (of) writing (and) reading. (Result) proportionate (increase in) ego.
Wanderings (at) umpteen shrines (of pilgrimages). They (become basis of) blabbering.
Wearing (of) various (kinds of religious) robes (and) subjecting body (to) penance.
O soul, (you must) endure (consequences of) your (own) acts.
Eating not (the) grains (and) missing relishing (the life).
Tolerating great pain (while getting mentally) attracted (to things) other (than Almighty).
Wearing not (the) clothes. Suffers (discomfort) day and night.
(Maintaining) silence (walks on the) wrong (path).
How (can be) awakened (from) sleep (of ignorance) without (guidance of) guru.
(Walking) bare feet. Suffers (for his) own fault.
Eating unnecessary filth (and) with ashes (on the) head.
Nonsensical fool loses respect. Without Name every activity is unacceptable.
Living (in) wilderness (&) places (of) cremation.
Stupid not understanding (the right way of life only to repent later.
(One) who surrenders (to the) true-guru (is the way to) find joy (in life).
(He) enshrines (the) Name of Almighty (in his) mind.
Nanak (says when Almighty) shower grace, one realizes (Him).
Freed (of) expectations (&) anxieties, I’ness (is) burnt (with assistance of the) Word (of Almighty). ||2||

Pauri (Guru Nanak Dev Ji):
Devotees please Your Mind (and) adorn (your) door singing (Your) praises.
Nanak (says, those) devoid (of Your) grace, find no shelter (at Your) door.
Many not knowing (the) source (of) their (true) origin, (though) undeserving promote (their) own-selves.
I (hail from the) low caste of singers (while) others claim (to be of) high caste.
(I) beg (from) those who ruminate Your (Name). | | 9 | |
